Setting up is done together with the Badger team. The steps below describe what has to be done; depending on your Lightspeed contract, some of them are carried out by us and not by you.
Before you start
A Lightspeed K-Series till.
Owner or administrator access on the Badger location concerned. An administrator can only connect the locations they administer.
Your points programme active on the Badger side.
The four steps
1. Authorise Badger in Lightspeed
From the location settings in your Badger dashboard, you start the Lightspeed connection. You sign in with your Lightspeed account and authorise Badger to read your closed sales and to act on the sale in progress.
You can check this connection, or cut it, at any time in the same place.
2. Say which Lightspeed business location matches this location
If your Lightspeed account contains several business locations, you choose the one that matches this Badger location.
A Lightspeed business location can only be linked to one Badger location, and the other way round. If you try to link a business location that is already used elsewhere, Badger refuses rather than overwriting the existing link.
Until this step is done, nothing works: a sale coming from a business location that is not linked is ignored, and no till credentials can be created.
3. Create the till credentials
The Badger window in your till has its own username and its own password, specific to this location. They are not your dashboard password.
You ask for the credentials to be created from the location page.
The password is shown once only. Write it down before closing the window.
You enter these credentials in the Badger window on the till.
The password can never be retrieved. Once lost, it cannot be read again: a new one has to be generated, which replaces the old one. Any till still set up with the old password then stops working and has to be set up again.
You can revoke these credentials at any time, for example if a tablet is lost.
4. Turn on the sale notifications
This is what lets Lightspeed tell Badger when a sale is cashed out. Without this step, the Badger window works but no sale gives any points.
Depending on the rights granted to your integration, this is turned on automatically or has to be requested from Lightspeed. See "2.10b.5 Turning on realtime notifications", which contains the message to send.
Where the Badger window is
The Badger window opens inside your Lightspeed till, on the sales screen: your employee does not leave the till and does not use a second device. It is set up on each device together with the Badger team, then your credentials are entered once.
Checking that everything is in place
The Lightspeed connection is active in the location settings.
A Lightspeed business location is linked to this location.
The Badger window opens on the till and shows your regulars.
A test sale, with an identified customer, cashed out, credits the points.
If one of these checks fails, see "2.10b.6 The till is not giving points: what to check".
