This article covers what you set up in your dashboard. What happens at the counter takes place in the Badger window on your till; what to do when the discount fails to apply automatically is described further down. For refunds, see "Refunds and corrections: how points are recalculated".
The cost in points
Every reward has a cost in points, which you set. It must be at least 1 point.
To get your bearings: your customers earn 10 points per franc spent. So a reward offered at 500 points corresponds to about 50 francs of spending. Badger suggests a cost based on the value of the reward, but you are the one who decides: the suggestion is never imposed.
A reward is valid in all the locations of your business. It is not possible today to keep a reward to a single address.
Two ways of giving a reward
When you create the reward, you choose which of the two applies.
Given by hand
Your employee scans the customer's code, confirms, and hands over the item. The points are debited immediately.
This is the simplest mode, and the one that works with no setting at all in Lightspeed. It suits anything that does not go through the receipt: a goodie, a free coffee served directly, an access.
Applied to the sale
The reward appears as a discount on the sale in progress in Lightspeed. The customer's points are first reserved, then debited only when the sale is cashed out.
This mode needs two extra settings:
A discount code that already exists in your Lightspeed till, which you enter on the reward. Badger only debits the points if it finds that code on the sale that was cashed out.
The level it applies at: on a specific line of the sale, or on the whole sale.
The two go together: a code with no level, or a level with no code, is refused. And a discount code can only be linked to a reward set up for the till.
This path is still being validated with Lightspeed. If the discount fails to apply automatically at the counter, your employee gives the reward by hand and records it as such: it is that record which counts, and which triggers the debit. If in doubt during your first few weeks, giving it by hand remains the safe choice.
If you change your discount codes in Lightspeed
A discount code deleted or renamed in Lightspeed silently breaks the reward linked to it: the sale closes normally, but the points are not debited.
The POS page of your dashboard lists the codes present in your till and flags any reward linked to a code it cannot find. Check it after every change to your discount codes.
Changing an existing reward
A change of cost applies immediately: the till rechecks the price at the moment of confirmation, it never trusts what was displayed before.
You can remove a reward from the catalogue without deleting the history of the ones already given.
A reward that has already been validated is never taken back afterwards, even if you change its cost later.
